The 23 year old German painter Leon Löwentraut is the face of a young generation of artists. He uses social media intensively and addresses a young audience who are rediscovering art. With 220,000 followers on Instagram.
In his work cycle Leon Löwentraut processes personal situations and experiences full of energy. What is real? Which face is my counterpart showing me? What can I believe? And who am I?
Löwentraut’s often large-format pictures are brightly colored, on which he usually squeezes the paint straight out of the tube. They remind us of Pablo Picasso, Jean-Michel Basquiat and Jackson Pollock. Löwentraut calls „people, figures, masks and silhouettes“ his specialties. Löwentraut also seems to orientate himself on the photos that are known of Pollock from his studio when he presents himself on Instagram.
