The Fondation Beyeler presents the first retrospective of the multi-talented Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama in Switzerland. The exhibition features both: iconic works and older pieces never before seen in Europe.
The mirrored rooms transport visitors to infinite worlds and have enjoyed cult status for decades. The exhibition highlights are the diversity of artistic media, Kusama has worked with over the years, including painting, sculpture, installations, drawing, collage, happenings, live performances, fashion, and literature. A wonderful honor for such a great artist.
“I was looking at the red pattern on the tablecloth when I looked up, and the same red pattern covered the ceiling, the windows, and the walls, and finally the entire room, my body, and the universe. I began to dissolve myself and found myself in the boundlessness of endless time and the absoluteness of surface. I reduced myself to absolute nothingness.”
— Yayoi Kusama
